The touring XI contested the first Peter Rawlings Memorial Cup Match against Apperknowle yesterday and fielded first after observing a minutes silence in memory of Peter.
Opening bowlers N Davidson (10-0-42-0) and T Mayhew (9-0-58-0) bowled well but without reward as the opposition openers added 73 together before D Dellar claimed two wickets in two balls to make the initial breakthrough. With K Chowdhury (6-0-41-0) also bowling well, it was Dellar (8-1-48-3) who took the third wicket to fall as the score reached 115/3. With C Finch (5-0-28-2) taking two more wickets while captain S Pillalamarri (2-0-9-0) went wicketless, Apperknowle ended their 40 overs on 233/5.
The Cavaliers reply saw M Vinter (3) dismissed early on, but a second wicket partnership of 40 between S Gilhooly and K Chowdhury saw the Cavs up to 49 before Chowdhury (25) was out. The Cavaliers then lost two quick wickets as E Parry (4) and Gilhooly (26) both departed. Wickets then fell at regular intervals without any partneships being formed, with S Pillalamarri (8) and P Johnson (2) the next to go. A battling 26 from D Dellar helped the Cavs pass 100, but his wicket and those of D Young (9), C Finch (2) and N Davidson (6) saw the Cavaliers finish on 123 all out from 31.2 overs, losing by 110 runs with T Mayhew unbeaten on 2*.
