Cavs Fall Short at The Brow

The Saturday XI travelled to Abberton today, with the game starting a little late due to some showers in the area.

After losing the toss the Cavaliers were asked to field first, with R Rasheed (8-0-33-0) bowling a fine spell of swing bowling without reward while N Davidson (6-0-46-1) made an early breakthrough. After the opening spells were done, the Cavaliers bowled 24 consecutive overs of spin with U Ghani (13-0-76-1) claiming an early wicket while N Hussain chipped away with regular wickets on his way to figures of 13-4-46-4, and was unlucky to not come away with his 5-fer of 2017. With S Riaz (3-0-21-0) and P Kannan (2-1-10-1) bowling the last five overs, Abberton finished their 45 overs on 250/8, with the eighth wicket being a run out in the final over of the innings.

The Cavaliers got off to a steady start, with M Vinter and K Chowdhury adding 39 for the first wicket before Vinter (20) was bowled. A further 34 was added by the second wicket and 39 for the third, with Chowdhury (26) and R Akhlaq (29) the two to go. The Cavaliers continued the trend of partnerships getting a good start, with P Kannan and R Rasheed adding 38 for the fourth wicket before Rasheed was caught out for 13. With Kannan proceeding to his second Cavs fifty (from 45 balls), he added a further 34 with N Hussain for the fifth wicket - Kannan eventually out for 65 from 55 balls, making the score 184/5 with 7.3 overs remaining. Hussain (20) and D Young (8) then saw the Cavaliers total pass 200 to secure full batting points, but the loss of both batsmen in successive balls saw the Cavaliers slip to 201/7. With wickets falling regularly towards the end of the innings, P Johnson (3), N Davidson (11) and S Riaz (2) were all dismissed, leaving U Ghani (3*) unbeaten as the Cavaliers posted 224 all out from 43.5 overs, losing by 26 runs.
