The Saturday XI welcomed Abberton to Mill Road today in the Two Counties Championship.
Having won the toss, the Cavaliers fielded first, With opening bowlers A Sarwar (opening spell of 6-4-7-2) and R Rasheed (opening spell of 10-0-43-3) combining well to reduce the visitors to 56/7, with U Ghani claiming the other wicket to fall. Ghani (12-7-14-2) then joined forces with S Riaz (5-0-16-1) in reducing Abberton to 64/8 after 23.4 overs, with a seemingly low score (and early finish) in prospect. It was then that Abberton's Booker brothers, Mike (41*) and David (34*) batting at 9 and 10, came together in an unbeaten ninth wicket partnership of 95, seeing off spells from P Kannan (2-0-10-0) and the returning openers, A Sarwar (11-4-38-2) and R Rasheed (15-0-61-3) as Abberton closed their innings 159/8 from their 45 overs.
The Cavaliers reply then saw early wickes fall, with M Vinter (a first-ball 0), D Dellar (2), T Janganan (0) and K Chowdhury (10) all dimissed cheaply with the score 16/4. A fifth wicket partnership of 32 between P Kannan and P Johnson helped to recover things, but Johnson (16) was out in controversial circumstances as the score slipped to 32/5, as D Booker ended his spell with impressive figures of 9-4-18-4. With the sixth wicket adding 31, the Cavs reached 63/5 before Kannan (32) and JJ Elliston (14) were out in quick succession (65/7). A counter-attacking R Rasheed (23) then took control during an eighth wicket partnership of 32 before he holed out to long-on attempting to hit a second six off of the bowling of C Oldrey (9.4-3-46-3). With the score 97/8, the Cavaliers limped past 100 shortly after S Riaz (6) was dismissed. A Sawar (11*) then decided to hit out, but the wicket of U Ghani (5) ended the Cavaliers innings on 113 after 33.4 overs, losing by 46 runs.
