Cavs Score Big

The Saturday XI hosted Elevden yesterday in the Two Counties Championship.

The visitors won the toss and elected to field with just nine players, having struggled to get a full XI to travel. A good opening partnership of 52 in 9.4 overs between JJ Elliston and F Murtaza got the Cavaliers off to a fine start before Elliston (14) was bowled. An attacking second wicket partnership between Murtaza and K Chowdhury added a further 118 runs, taking the Cavs up to 170/1, with Murtaza bringing up another 50 for the club in just 46 balls before being caught out for 92. Soon after Murtaza's dismissal, Chowdhury (52) passed his fifty before falling with the score on 200 after 30 overs. With the fourth wicket adding 31 runs, the dismissal of T Janganan (34) led to more wickets, with D Young (14) and J Parks (0) out soon afterwards, but a good seventh wicket partnership of 46 between P Kannan and P Johnson saw the Cavaliers up to 285 before Kannan (26) and P Kalra (0) were both dismissed towards the end. The Cavs ended their innings of 289/8 from their 45 overs, with Johnson (24*) and S Riaz (0*) there at the end.

Elveden started their reply well as the openers added 74 together before P Kalra made the initial breakthrough. With the visitors reaching 110/1 despite the best efforts of U Ghani (15-2-54-0), Kalra (13-0-69-2) took his second wicket. With P Kannan (7-0-23-1) taking the third wicket of the innings to reduce the visitors to 145/3, the Cavaliers continued to take regular wickets, with S Riaz taking two more to take the score to 150/5. Elveden then reached the final over with the score on 173/5, with the Cavaliers needing three wickets to claim full points from the fixture - Riaz (10-0-28-4) proceeded to take wickets with the fourth and fifth deliveries of the over, but was unfortunately not able to claim a hat-trick for the full points as Elveden's last man saw off the final delivery of the match, reaching 174/7 from their 45 overs - The Cavaliers winning by 115 runs.
