Chappel Stun Cavs

The Sunday XI travelled to The Hobbies to play Chappel & Wakes Colne's second XI today.

Having lost the toss, the Cavs were invited to bat first on a damp wicket. Progress from the openers was steady as the Cavaliers reached 21/0 after four overs. The Chappel opening bowlers fought back well, with R Wilson bowling a succession of maidens while R Carter enjoyed the success of a treble-wicket maiden in the sixth over - P Kannan (18), T Janganan (0) and T Hijazi (0) all falling within four balls. With runs hard to come by, the Cavs tried to dig in, but E Parry (1), N Davidson (7), J Parks (1) and D Young (0) also fell victim to the Chappel opening pair, as Wilson (8-6-9-2) and Carter (9-3-24-5) reduced the visiting side to 34/7. Some attacking intent from debutant B Prabhu (13) and good running from D Chetwyn (3) saw the score creep up, but both were dismissed by second change bowler B Jackson (3-0-9-2) before Cavaliers skipper C Finch (3) was the last man out to J Cousins (4.3-1-5-1) as the Cavs finished 50 all out from 24.3 overs - T Mayhew (0*) adding another 'not out' to his record.

The Cavaliers needed a good start to the second innings, and got it through N Davidson (6-0-18-2), with fellow opening bowler P Kannan (5-0-7-0) unlucky to not take a wicket also. B Prabhu (3-0-7-1) then took his first wicket for the club as D Young claimed a catch off of the Chappel captain's glove from a ball that bounced more than expected. With D Chetwyn (2-0-9-0) and T Mayhew (1-0-4-0) unable to take a wicket, there was still time for T Hijazi (1.4-0-4-1) to take his first wicket of the season before Chappel reached their target in 18.4 overs, scoring 51/4 in a six wicket victory.
