The Saturday XI hosted Boxted at Mill Road today.
Having won the toss the Cavaliers batted first with D Dellar (8) adding 35 with J Walton for the first wicket. A second wicket partnership of 62 put the Cavaliers in a strong position by the time F Murtaza (36) was dismissed. J Walton brought up his second Cavaliers fifty (from 48 balls) before being dismissed for 50 from 51 balls as the Cavs reached 118/3 in 19 overs. The wickets of R Ikhlaq (16) and D Young (5) soon followed to leave the Cavs 133/5 at the halfway point, but an outstanding sixth wicket partnership of 90 between P Johnson and T Hijazi (who scored his maiden Cavaliers fifty from 45 balls) helped the Cavs reach a healthy 223/5 before the dismissals of Hijazi (52), Johnson (27) and R Rasheed (0) saw the score slip to 231/8, with P Singh (15*) and U Ghani (6*) seeing the Cavaliers up to their final total of 254/8 from their 45 overs.
The Cavs defence of their total started well, with Rasheed bowling an excellent opening spell of 3-1-4-3, bowling with good pace and swing (and two fantastic swinging yorkers to bowl two batsmen), while K Hemstedt (3-3-0-2) bowled an excellent spell at the other end, giving away no runs. With U Ghani (3-2-2-1) bowling a wicket maiden with his first over, Boxted were reduced to 5/6 and captain D Dellar began to shuffle his pack of bowlers, allowing P Singh (3-1-4-1) to bowl as Boxted limped to 14/7 before an eighth wicket partnership of 25 helped Boxted recover to 39/7 as spells from R Ikhlaq (2-2-0-0), P Johnson (2-0-15-0) and J Walton (2-0-12-0) were negotiated. Spells from F Murtaza (2-1-1-1) and T Hijazi (2-1-3-1) then reduced Boxted to 42/9 before Rasheed (4.4-1-5-4) returned to end the Boxted innings with midweek Cavalier T Crayston (17*) the undefeated batsman as Boxted were all out for 45 - A 209 run win for the Cavaliers.
