Catching & Collapse Costs Cavs

The Sunday XI travelled to Halstead today.

Having lost the toss, the Cavaliers found themselves fielding first as Halstead saw off opening spells from R Rasheed and N Davidson, as well as a spell from U Ghani (9-0-50-0), before T Mayhew (9-1-56-1) broke the 100 run opening stand via a leg-side catch by D Young. A second wicket stand of 70 was then broken by M Nadeem (7-0-57-1) while J Samwell (4-0-35-0) toiled at the other end. With Halstead looking to accelerate, captain N Jalib turned to R Rasheed (6-0-47-0) and N Davidson (5-0-39-1), with the latter picking up the wicket of Halstead opener H Veal (177) in the penultimate over of the innings. Halstead ended their 40 overs on an imposing 288/3, despite a committed effort in the field by the Cavaliers (which unfortunately included a couple of dropped catches).

The Cavaliers reply got off to a poor start, with D Young (0) caught behind in the third over. The Cavs recovered to 30/1 but the wickets of N Jalib (22), M Nadeem (4) and R Rasheed (1) saw the score slip to 40/4. The wicket of U Ghani (6) brought N Davidson to the crease, and he added 28 for the sixth wicket with M Vinter. With the Cavaliers recovering to 84/5, a collapse of monumental proportions saw Davidson (4), J Samwell (0), M Vinter (31), H Tuckwell (0) and T Mayhew (0) all dismissed - All five falling without a run being added, as the Cavaliers were all out for 84 with J Patel (0*) the not out batsman as the Cavs lost by 204 runs.
