Rasheed Routs Kelvedon

The Cavaliers Saturday XI played Kelvedon & Feering at home today.

Having won the toss the Cavs elected to bat first, with D Dellar (23) and M Vinter (22) adding 49 for the first wicket before both fell in quick succession. With R Ikhlaq (0) also falling to Kelvedon's N Claus (13-6-31-3), the Cavs were reduced to 60/3. After a fourth wicket partnership of 18 between F Murtaza and M Nadeem, a familiar middle order collapse saw P Johnson (3) and K Hemstedt (1) follow Nadeem (5) back to the pavilion as S Bonvini (10-1-62-3) struck. Murtaza and P Singh then combined for a counter-attacking seventh wicket partnership of 80 in 11 overs, with Murtaza bringing up his 50 in 48 balls during the stand. With Singh (32) and R Rasheed (0) both dismissed within three balls, it was left to U Ghani (6*) and Murtaza (85* from 79 balls) to see the Cavaliers up to their final total of 193/8 from their 45 overs.

The Kelvedon reply started with an opening partnership of 25, as chances were missed, but the stand was broken by Rasheed as D Young caught a thin edge. With fellow opening bowler M Nadeem (5-1-18-0) struggling to find rhythm, captain Dellar turned to P Singh to support R Rasheed. With both bowlers exhibiting great control; Singh finding impressive turn, while Rasheed produced a spell of spectacular swing bowling, the Kelvedon middle order collapsed from 31/1 to 55/7 as Rasheed claimed his first 5-fer for the club. Kelvedon then recovered through an eighth wicket partnership of 46 as change bowlers U Ghani, K Hemstedt (3-0-15-0) and M Vinter (2-0-21-0) bowled without success, before Ghani (8-1-38-1) made the breakthrough. The return of Rasheed (15-3-27-6) then saw Kelvedon #3 R Morrell (63) dismissed as he and P Singh (12-4-19-2) ensured that Kelvedon fell short of the Cavaliers total, scoring 156/9 in their 45 overs.
