Rain Halts Cavs Charge

The Saturday XI travelled to Dunmow for a top of the table clash today.

Upon losing the toss, the Cavaliers were invited to bat first on a good-looking wicket. The opening partnership of D Dellar and N Jalib gave the Cavs an ideal start, adding 50 runs in good time before Dellar (16) was out bowled. Jalib (21) departed a few overs later via a good slip catch, and the Cavaliers reached the halfway stage on a healthy 76/2. The third wicket partnership between F Murtaza and S Gilhooly saw the Cavs pass 100 before Murtaza (39) was caught at backward square leg. A rapid partnership of 27 between Gilhooly and N Hussain got the Cavs up to 130/3, but the dismissal of Hussain (23) triggered a Cavaliers collapse as R Rasheed (4) and A Sarwar (5) fell soon afterwards. The Cavs managed to stop the wickets from falling for a couple of overs, but found run scoring difficult, reaching 144/6 before batsmen started falling whilst looking for quick runs at the end; N Davidson (1), S Gilhooly (16), P Johnson (0) and U Ghani (6) all falling in a 16-ball period to see the Cavaliers all out after 37.5 overs, scoring a total of 150 - D Young (0*) the not out batsman.

The Cavs started their defence of the low total well, as R Rasheed opened with a wicket-maiden; Gilhooly snaffling a good catch at second slip. With Rasheed bolwling with great control of swing (and the occasional slower ball), he claimed a second wicket via a sharp catch by Jalib to leave Dunmow 16/2. Both Rasheed (6-3-7-2) and fellow opener A Sarwar (6-1-25-0) bowled fine opening spells of swing bowling at pace, but the weather had the final say as heavy rain stopped play after 12 overs, with the score 36/2 - Dunmow claiming 11pts, while the Cavs picked up 10pts.
