The Sunday XI travelled to Ardleigh today, and elected to bat first upon winning the toss.
The Cavaliers innings didn't get off to the best start, as openers D Smith (4) and S Pillalamarri (1) dismissed early on. With N Jalib (5) and P Johnson (0) following soon after, the Cavs were 10/4 after just 4 overs. A fifth wicket partnership of 39 between P Sadler and J Walton then helped the Cavs recover before the wicket of Walton (18) brought E Parry to the crease, who proceeded to add 79 for the sixth wicket with Sadler. The return of Sadler was a welcome sight for the Cavaliers as he reached a 58 ball fifty before eventually being dismissed for a very good 70, despite the distraction of two rain delays and an early tea. With the Cavs 128/6 with 5 overs left P Trivedi (1), N Davidson (3) and D Young (4) were all out in the pursuit of quick runs. A reverse sweep from last man T Mayhew (1*) then got Parry (32*) on strike as the Cavaliers ended their innings on 149/9.
Ardleigh got off to a good start in the second innings as the openers saw off the opening spells of N Davidson and J Walton (9-1-31-0) on their way to a first wicket partnership of 86 before T Mayhew (6-0-29-1) bowled T Harvey (51). With Mayhew and D Smith (9-2-21-0) bowling well in tandem without further reward, Ardleigh edged towards their target, with K Lamont (67*) leading the way. A couple of late wickets from S Pillalamarri (5-0-31-1) and the returning Davidson (9-0-29-1) gave the Cavaliers hope, but Ardleigh reached their target, scoring 151/3, to win by 7 wickets with two overs remaining.
