Yesterday the Cavaliers travelled to the picturesque ground of Hathersage to play their third tour match of 2015.
Captain for the day N Hussain agreed with the Hathersage captain that we would field first, and opening bowlers immediately did well as N Davidson kept things economical while J Rawlings (8-2-20-2) removed the Derbyshire side's opening batsmen. The Cavs continued to chip away at the Hathersage line-up as D Howell's good bowling (8-1-22-1) was rewarded via a fine running catch by Hussain, and T Mayhew (8-0-48-2) claiming wickets via a Davidson catch and a stumping by N Jalib. Captain Hussain then introduced himself to the attack, taking three wickets on his way to figures of 8-1-41-3, including another catch by Davidson, and a second stumping for Jalib. With Davidson (8-2-25-0) returning to keep the run-rate down, Hathersage ended their 40 overs on 167/8.
The Cavaliers reply started slowly, with P Johnson (1) and S Johnson (8) out early to Hathersage's 14 year old dynamo, R Mohammadullah (8-2-22-2), but the experienced pair of Jalib (70 - his second successive fifty on tour!) and S Gilhooly (33) adding 92 for the third wicket to help the Cavaliers up to 128/2 before both batsmen departed within four balls of each other. With E Parry (10) helping to steady the innings, the Cavs brought up their 150 before N Davidson (with a run a ball 23*) and N Hussain (4*) got the Cavs to the winning line, as we finished on 170/5 in 37.5 overs to claim the win by five wickets.
