Historic Victory

Cavaliers recorded their first league victory over one of the local big boys by beating Halstead in a game that had more twist and turns than an Eastender's stortline.

Cavaliers elected to bat first with Ed and Raj continuing to lead the order. Raj (25) got us off to a quick start while Ed (40) anchored the innings. Morris then picked up 3 quick wickets to leave the Cavs struggling at 40-3. The middle order rebuilt batting around a solid Ed with Salman acelerating with a quickfire 30 and lots of extras along the way to give the Cavs a respectable total of 193 after 43 overs.

The Halstead reply started ominously as Morris and Johnson looked secure against Justin, struggling to tune his radar, and Dave H who didn't really enjoy bowling with the new ball. When Phil (3-39) replaced Dave the ball started to swing and batting was suddenly a challenging occupation. Justin got his run up right and with the pitch offering bounce the Halstead batsmen looked uncertain. Justin's ball to dismiss a very strong looking Verrynne was the champagne moment (swing away and cut back a mile) and he ended with the MVP performance of 5-33.

From 41 without loss the scoreboard now showed 78-8 as Josh Wells strode to the crease and immediately exploited the short leg side boundary off Phil. Darren was next to take some stick as an over went for 32 (leaving him with unique figures of 2 overs, 1 maiden, 32 runs, 0 wickets) and Salman followed at the same end conceding 21 from his solitary over. With victory in sight for the Halstead star Cavaliers turned to Dave who held his nerve to bowl a slower delivery that bounced and took the bails. The equation was now 20 runs required and 1 wicket in hand - all to play for! The Halstead tail nudged and nurdled 5 runs before Dave took the edge and Phil a fine catch to seal a confidence boosting win for the Cavaliers.

MVP: Justin Rishworth
