Further Batting Woes

Once again the batting failed as the First XI slumped to a heavy defeat at the hands of Coggeshall but there are some positives to be taken from the game.

The bowling attack performed well despite the absence of Stuart and Harish. Having worked incredibly hard to dismiss a strong upper order we just failed to wrap up the tail and so instead of chasing 180 we had to face a tough target of 242. The catching was once again an issue with the Coggy opener Green getting at least 3 lives. For the second week running Dan Smith picked up the majority of the wickets (4-57) but Dave and Tony created the pressure in the tough middle overs.

The batting never really got going with only Justin (17) putting up any resistance amid a total of just 65.

On a brighter note it was interesting to note that Coggeshall were very dependant on just a couple of players that did most of the batting and all the bowling. As the season has progressed it is becoming clear that we can compete with many teams in this Division if we can field our strongest XI.
