3 out of 3 and Top of the League

Cavaliers Evening XI (or X, IX, VIII dependent on timing) are riding high at the top of the Colchester Evening league having already beaten strong sides from W & G and West Mersea, and then cruising to victory against the Garrison.

We took the field with only VIII, but that didn’t matter as Sean Cobb had a storming game at square leg, where most Garrison shots were aimed. Having eventually achieved a full team by the third over (traffic delays), Deji briefly went AWOL to concede two undeserved fours (and mess up Kevin Line’s otherwise impressive figures), but was forgiven when he later bowled a magnificent rare wicket maiden. Robbie, Danny, Harish and Tony all bowled impressive spells to restrict the Garrison to 93 sharing the run strangulation and wickets between them. Robbie’s pace managed to knock one batsmen entirely off his feet like a nine pin but in an highly accurate controlled spell, gave Phil the confidence to stand up and take his second sharp stumping of the night. Dan thundered in like a screaming banshee, and he and Harish were almost unplayable. Tony, was again Tony, baffling and bemusing the Garrison batsmen with his hand grenades. Joe Hall and Ritchie Cook then made a steady start before a contentious LBW felled Joe. Ritchie went on to make a steady 20 with a effective fly swatting style on a wicket where it was evidently most difficult to judge the pace of the ball. A little behind the clock, the skipper then elevated Dan Skinner, who’s undefeated 48 comfortably saw us home with overs to spare and eight wickets intact, well supported by Sean. Overall a fantastic team spirit, a superb team effort, and great momentum to carry forward into the remainder of the season. Phil Wolski.
