Box Clever

A busy Bank Holiday weekend got off to a good start with a solid win over Boxted to revenge the defeat earlier in the season and, similar to last season, share the wins with our most local rivals.

The pitch conditions looked good and with clear skies we happy to win the toss and bat first but from the first ball batting wasn't as simple as expected with erratic bounce alternately threatening the hands and toes. Danny was the only batsman to master the conditions, anchoring the innings to make an unbeaten 93, with excellent support from Ray at the close. Jon R hit a memorable straight six as the late order acceleration got us up to 190, certainly much more than looked likely a few overs earlier.

The Boxted innings started badly for the home side with a wicket falling first ball to Stuart, thanks to an excellent catch by Tony. Thereafter the bowlers were put to the sword until Ray joined the attack to dismiss the dangerous Gilbert for 43 and the other top order batsmen shortly afterwards to leave Boxted struggling at 93-4.

Tony bowled his usual good line to pick up 4 wickets in the middle order, thanks to some great catching, especially by Robbie and a couple more stumpings by Phil. The last four wickets went down quickly to wrap the game up early with a win by 49 runs.
