Tenth Victory

Cavaliers First XI recorded their tenth win of the season with a comfortable victory over Earls Colne & Bures. With eight games remaining, three against the bottom two sides, we could still record more wins than in our promotion season of 2007.

Having asked Earls to bat first, Stuart and Darren started strongly taking wickets in overs five and six to reduce the visitors to 9-2 putting them very much on the back foot. Stuart produced another excellent inswinger to increase his tally in the eleventh over and Tony joined the party with a typical caught at long-on victim in his first over.

Ray’s first over was expensive but from there on he rattled of the maiden overs while Durkin and captain Smith attempted to mount a fightback keeping the Cavs at bay for 10 overs. The pace duo of Robbie and Danny bowled the final overs both managing to castle the Earls tailenders wrapping up the innings in the 42nd over.

In reply Jack took full advantage of some wayward bowling from Durkin but Dawes and Smith bowled good lines to make things hard for the Cavs openers on a slow paced wicket. The Earls youngsters bowled some good deliveries but chasing such as small score the result was never in doubt despite Danny top edging a slog sweep and Rasa mis-timing a drive to long on. Luke hit the shot of the day to clear the long on boundary while Jack dusted off some top-draw cover drives.

With results elsewhere going to form our games against Boxted and Little Baddow look like being the ones to settle the Division 2 title this year.
