The Cavaliers welcomed Ipswich & East Suffolk to Mill Road today in the last home game of the 2017 season.

After losing the toss the Cavaliers were asked to bat first on a green pitch and lost an early wicket, that of D Dellar (2), in the first over. M Vinter and D Smith then combined to build the highest second wicket partnership of the 2017 season for the Cavaliers, adding 135 runs together in 25 overs as Smith reached his fifty in 66 balls, followed by Vinter's fifty in 76 balls. Vinter (54) was the first to go before Smith and P Kannan saw the Cavaliers up to 159/2, but both Smith (74) and Kannan (20) fell in quick succession as the score slipped to 165/4. With R Rasheed (13) out soon afterwards, A Sarwar (in his last match for the Cavaliers) and N Hussain added a quickfire 50 for the sixth wicket in 5.5 overs, getting the Cavaliers up to 233/5 before Sarwar was out for a 26-ball 44. P Johnson (1) was next to go (in the penultimate over), but N Hussain (21*) saw the Cavs up to their final score of 241/7 in 45 overs, with D Young (0*) the other not out batsman.

The IESCC openers added 37 for the first wicket in their reply before R Rasheed (7-1-24-1) made the breakthrough while A Sarwar (7-1-32-0) was unlucky to go wicketless. The Cavaliers then continued to chip away with wickets, with N Hussain (7-0-48-1) and P Kalra (8-3-29-2) taking the next three to fall while IESCC captain M Sproats went big at the other end. As the opposition reached 172/4 with more than 10 overs remaining, S Riaz (5-0-26-1) then took the crucial wicket of Sproats (77) which triggered a late charge for the Cavs - D Young effecting a direct-hit run out running around to gully before D Smith (6-1-30-2) took the next wickets to fall as IESCC slumped to 192/8. The introduction of P Kannan (1-0-5-2) then saw the match end quickly as he Cavaliers dismissed Ipswich & East Suffolk for 197 in 41 overs, winning by 44 runs.
