Cavs Fall to Frinton

The Saturday XI travelled to Kirby today to play Frinton.

Having won the toss D Dellar elected to field first in a 35 over a side game, reduced due to expected rain delays. The expected rain caused two stoppages and brought an early tea, with the Frinton openers adding 137 together in a partnerhip where every aerial shot and edge found gaps in the field, was misjudged, or just evaded fielders as opening bowlers R Rasheed and P Kalra (6-0-34-0) were unable to make the breakthrough. The first wicket came via a stumping for D Young off of U Ghani, and it was followed by regular wickets from Ghani (11-0-54-4) and S Riaz (8-0-50-3) as Frinton slipped to 182/7. With the returning R Rasheed (11-1-62-2) claiming two late wickets, Frinton ended their 35 overs on 215/9.

With the sun shining for the second innings, the Cavaliers began their chase by losing S Pillalamarri (2) early on. With E Parry timing the ball well and N Jalib rotating the strike at will, the Cavaliers appeared to be getting a foothold in the match, but Parry (14) was out in the ninth over. The score reched 38/2 before the wickets of N Jalib (9), R Akhlaq (11) and R Rasheed (1) saw the Cavs slip to 45/5. A sixth wicket partnership of 36 between D Dellar and P Kalra saw the Cavaliers pick up their first batting point of the day before Dellar (26) was bowled. D Young (2) followed soon afterwards, but Kalra and P Johnson saw the Cavaliers pass 100, though Johnson (4) was dismissed three balls later. An unbeaten ninth wicket partnership between Kalra (30*)  and S Riaz (4*) got the Cavaliers up to their final total of 118/8 in 35 overs, losing by 97 runs.
