Scorcher at Apperknowle

The Cavaliers touring side travelled to Apperknowle yesterday, and fielded first after captain M Vinter lost the toss.

Apperknowle started well, with opener A Bishop batting so far our of his crease, N Davidson took a while to find the right length to him. With N Hussain (12-0-23-3) bowling well at the other end, Vinter turned to T Mayhew (8-0-20-1), who dismissed Bishop (57) via a catch in the deep by D Dellar. Economical bowling from P Sadler (7-4-15-1) and a spell from K Chowdhury (6-1-41-1) saw two more wickets fall before the returning Davidson (7-0-53-2) took two at the end. Apperknowle finished their 40 overs on 159/8.

After a BBQ tea of burgers, sausages and cake, the Cavs began their reply through D Dellar and M Vinter, adding 28 for the first wicket before Dellar (10) was dimissed. A second wicket partnership of 85 between Vinter and D Young saw the Cavaliers pass 100 and get ahead if the asking rate, with Vinter leading by example with a fifty - He retired out on 55, and the score on 113/2. Young then reached his career-high score of 31 before being bowled off his inside edge, followed by E Parry (4), P Sadler (13) and N Davidson (5) as the Cavs reached 147/6. It was then left to P Johnson (6*, and a tour average of 37!) and N Hussain (5*) to see the Cavs up to 163/6 - A four wicket win!
