Copdock Cause Cavs Collapse

The Sunday XI hosted Copdock & OI at Mill Road today.

Having lost the toss, the Cavaliers were asked to field first. Copdock added 44 for the first wicket against the bowling of M Nadeem and N Davidson (4-0-22-0) before Nadeem (7-0-38-1) broke the partnership via a good catch at cover by N Jalib. The bowling of R Rasheed (9-0-42-2) accounted for the next two wickets before D Smith claimed two excellent caught & bowled wickets - The second a great diving catch to dismiss D Searle (48). With Nadeem taking an excellent catch, Smith ended with figures of 9-1-46-3 before U Ghani (3.4-1-23-4) mopped up the tail while C Finch (2-0-13-0) replaced Smith. Copdock ended on 185 all out from 35.4 overs, with F Ward (53) the last man out.

The Cavs reply got off to a slow start against some good bowling, with openers M Vinter (5) and D Young (5) both falling to F Ward (6-1-7-2) as they reached 21/2 off 11 overs. A third wicket partnership of 38 between N Jalib (29) and M Nadeem (12) got the Cavs up to 59/2, but both fell in quick succession to S Gauke as the score slipped to 63/4. A familiar collapse then saw D Smith (4), R Rasheed (0), H Tuckwell (0) and N Davidson (0) all out as Gauke claimed his 5-fer. R Ikhlaq had watched wickets fall at the other end, coming in at 59/3, but he was ninth man out - Run out for 16 with the score 79/9. The last pair of U Ghani and C Finch (1*) added 7 together, but Ghani (3) was out to Gauke (6.2-1-17-6) as the Cavaliers were all out for 86, losing by 99 runs.
