Cavs Lose Despite Singh Heroics

The Property Book Cavaliers hosted Real Oddies tonight in the CECL.

The PBUK Cavs fielded first, with N Davidson (3-0-35-0), J Walton (2-0-25-0), debutant J Samwell (3-0-26-0) and J Rawlings (3-0-20-0) all bowling unsuccessful spells against the Real Oddies openers M Hall (39) and J Hambrook (92), who added 112 for the first wicket. The introduction of P Singh then gave the Cavs their first breakthrough, thanks to a ripper of a ball which clipped Hall's pads before clipping the off bail. With Singh claiming a second wicket in the same over, followed by a maiden, he returned superb figures of 2-1-8-2, while J Lawson (2-0-38-1) removed the dangerous Hambrook via a good catch at long-off by S Anandraj. The Oddies ended their innings on 158/3 from their 15 overs.

The Cavaliers reply got off to a steady start despite the loss of openers S Anandraj (3) and N Jalib (12). A very handy third wicket partnership of 63 between P Singh and JJ Elliston then got the Cavs up to 91/2 in just under 9 overs, with Singh striking his first fifty for the club from just 33 balls! The dismissal of Singh (56 from 38 balls) didn't slow the Cavs though - the game was well balanced at 104/3 after 10 overs, but the wickets of J Lawson (2) and N Davidson (0) resulted in a wicket-maiden to put the pressure back on. The PBUK Cavaliers then slumped to 120/8 as the wickets of H Tuckwell (1), Elliston (32) and J Samwell (1) fell in quick succession. With just under two overs left to get the required 39 runs J Rawlings (6) was out chasing quick runs, leaving J Walton (8*) and D Young (5*) to see the Cavs up to their final total of 137/9, losing by 21 runs.
