Rain Halts Cavs Recovery

The Saturday XI travelled to Witham today.

After driving through a few showers on the way to the game, Witham won the toss and elected to field first. Cavaliers openers D Dellar and M Nadeem started positively, with Nadeem displaying some impressive hitting before being bowled for 15. Next man F Murtaza (12) started aggressively, hitting three fours in his first four balls, but his dismissal was soon followed by that of Dellar (21), with young leg-spinner B Tinham taking both wickets. A fourth wicket partnership of 33 between JJ Elliston and K Hemstedt saw the Cavs rebuild, but the dismissal of Hemstedt (12) left the innings precariously placed at 85/4. What followed was a middle order recovery as a counter-attacking A Sarwar (37 from just 26 balls) joined Elliston (36) in a fifth wicket partnership of 46 before they were both dismissed by Tinham (12-0-67-5) within 14 balls. An unbeaten seventh wicket partnership of 51 between P Johnson (22*) and an attacking R Rasheed (28* from 22 balls) saw the Cavaliers up to their final total of 195/6 from 40 overs.

Sadly heavy rain arrived during the tea break, eventually leading to the abandonment of the game at the halfway stage, denying the Cavaliers a chance to defend their total.
