Cavs Start 2016 Well

The Cavaliers Saturday XI made the short trip to Boxted today in the first (playable) match of 2016.

Having lost the toss, the Cavaliers were invited to field first. Opening the bowling was debutant R Rasheed who found early success, claiming a wicket from his fourth ball for the club - D Young eagerly diving to his right to claim a low one-handed catch. With Rasheed (6-1-19-1) and fellow opening bowler N Davidson keeping things tight, the Boxted top order wilted to 35/6 after 12 overs as Davidson claimed a coveted Cavs cap with his maiden 5-fer, finishing with great figures of 6-0-15-5. Skipper D Dellar then turned to his spinners to continue the good work of the openers, with N Hussain claiming the wicket of Boxted opener R Springett (13 - their top-scorer) with his fourth ball bowled. Both Hussain and debutant U Ghani continued keeping things economical as Boxted sought to rebuild; their eight-wicket pair adding 13 runs in 9 overs to leave them 49/7 after 22 overs. The drinks break then appeared to break their concentration as Hussain (6-3-5-3) and Ghani (5.1-1-10-1) mopped up the tail as Boxted were all out for 51 in 23.1 overs!

With the tea yet to arrive, the teams turned around immediately. Openers D Dellar and M Vinter set about chasing the total as quick as possible (they probably saw the tea arriving as they walked out!), with the run rate at 9 after the first 3 overs! The opening pair barely offered a chance to Boxted, chasing the total in 10.5 overs - Dellar finishing 26* (33 balls) and Vinter on 15* (33 balls) - to ensure a 10 wicket win (54/0).
