Dellar & Hemstedt Milestones Lead To Big Win

The Cavaliers Saturday XI travelled to West Mersea today.

Having won the toss the Cavaliers elected to bat first, with openers D Dellar and S Pillalamarri giving the team an excellent start as the Cavs eased to 97/0 at the drinks break (22 overs). The opening pair then accelerated as they added 201 for the first wicket (the highest stand of 2015 for any wicket) before the captain, S Pillalamarri, was caught for 81 (from 88 balls) in the 36th over. With M Vinter middling the ball straight away, the score kept rising as Dellar reached his maiden Cavaliers century from 136 balls (13x4, 0x6). The innings ended with Vinter (39 from 33 balls) caught in the deep off the last ball as the Cavaliers posted 275/2 from their 45 overs, with Dellar unbeaten on 116* - The second wicket pair adding a quick 74! A special mention should also go to F Murtaza who had to endure being padded up for the entire 45 overs #padrash

The Cavs defence of their total started well as N Davidson struck in the first over, while P Kalra kept things tight at the other end. The opening bowlers continued to bowl with pace and swing to remove the West Mersea top order, with Davidson (7-0-32-3) and Kalra (7-1-30-2) both returning good final figures. The introduction of K Hemstedt then had Mersea rattled as he claimed a wicket in each of his first three overs. With N Hussain (5-1-8-0) bowling economically, Hemstedt took full advantage of the pressure to end his spell well (his last three wickets came at the cost of no runs from 23 balls) as he earned his club cap via a maiden 5-fer, ending with figures of 6-3-10-5. The Cavaliers dismissed Mersea for just 83 runs to claim a 192 run win.
