Mahim Offers a Rai of Hope

The Sunday XI played Little Bardfield Village at Mill Road today.
Having won the toss, the Cavs batted first, with E Parry and D Smith adding 52 for the opening wicket before Smith was out for 34. With Parry (3) following soon afterwards, it was left to A Corcos and E Goodall (10) to rebuild the innings before J Bardell (13) and Corcos (31) saw the Cavaliers up to 117, with both players falling on the score. It was then left to P Johnson (5), N Davidson (7) and D Young (3*) to support debutant M Rai (24*) as the Cavaliers racked up a score of 164/7 from their 40 overs.
An opening stand of 60 between D Hymas and P Stone put the Cavs on the back foot, but J Bardell (9-0-33-1) had the dangerous Hymas caught behind by Young to create an opening. The Cavs then took regular wickets, with change bowlers M Rai (8-1-25-2) and E Goodall (7-0-31-1) both bowling with good pace. The return of opening bowler N Davidson (7-0-46-1) then brought about a fifth wicket before a moment of brilliance from Rai saw him effect a direct hit run out from mid off to leave LBV six down, and the cavs just one wicket away from the tail. Sadly that wicket didn't appear, with D Smith (2.5-0-16-0) unlucky to see a couple of chances missed off his bowling as LBV reached 165/4 off 33.5 overs to win by 4 wickets.
