Kalra Caps a Good Cavs Performance

The Saturday XI played Maldon at Mill Road today.

With Maldon winning the toss and electing to bat, the cavs opening bowlers started well with A Sarwar claiming three top-order wickets (the first coming via a diving D Dellar at slip) as N Davidson (6-3-4-0) kept things tight at the other end. The introduction of P Kalra for Davidson brought an immediate wicket, with Cavs debutant M Wall claiming a good catch at point. Kalra was then rewarded for some economical bowling (four maidens in a row after his first over) as he earned his Cavaliers cap with superb figures of 9-5-7-5, with the fifth of his wickets coming through S Pillalamarri's third catch of the innings. After another economical spell from Z Ahmed (4-2-3-0), captain Pillalamarri (3-0-23-0) came into the attack as the Maldon tail attacked in an attempt to pass fifty. It was then left to M Wall (4-1-8-1) and the returning Sarwar (12.1-1-32-4) to take the last two Maldon wickets to have them all out for 74 in 38.1 overs.

The Cavaliers reply started well, with openers D Dellar and S Pillalamarri playing well to add 56 for the first wicket before Pillalamarri (17) was well caught at short cover. The Cavs then got within five runs of the win before losing their second wicket with Dellar (44) out, but the combination of N Jalib (13*) and Z Ahmed (0*) got the Cavaliers over the line, ending on 75/2 from 16.5 overs to record an eight wicket win in the final Saturday home fixture.
