Earls Colne KO Cavs

The Sunday XI faced Earls Colne in the NECL Knock-out Cup today.

Having won the toss, the Cavaliers fielded first. The Earls Colne openers rode their luck against the Cavs opening bowlers, J Rawlings and J Bardell (9-1-29-0) before T Mayhew (8-0-40-2) dismissed both batsmen to leave the opposition on 103/2. With S Pillalamarri (6-1-35-1) claiming the Cavs third wicket of the innings, Earls Colne were on 115/3 from 27 overs, but a fourth wicket partnership of 90 helped them pass 200 before Rawlings (8-2-39-1) returned to break that partnership. The Earls Colne innings ended on 222/4 from their 45 overs, with N Davidson (7-0-61-0) and C Finch (2-0-13-0) unlucky to bowl towards the end to two set batsmen. Davidson was also unlucky to bowl a batsman with a no ball.

The Cavaliers reply started poorly, with Pillalamarri (2), G Moncrieff (2), K Jayasinghe (1) and M Rackowe (0) all out cheaply to leave the Cavs 27/4. An attacking innings of 26 from in-form Rawlings (from just 19 balls, including six boundaries) saw the score pass 50, before a partnership of 43 between E Parry and Bardell (25 from 24 balls) saw the Cavs up to 102/6 (upon Bardell's dismissal). With Davidson (0) out shortly afterwards, D Young (8) and Parry added 15 for the ninth wicket before C Finch (0*) retired hurt, and Mayhew (0) was dismissed first ball. The Cavaliers finished on 118/9 from 39 overs to lose by 104 runs, with skipper E Parry carrying his bat for 38* from 123 balls.
