Cavs Tie Themselves in a Tangle

The Cavaliers Saturday side played second-placed Halstead today at the rugby club.

With Halstead winning the toss, ten-man Cavaliers fielded first. Opening bowlers Z Ahmed (6-1-14-0) and N Davidson kept things tight at the start, with Halstead adding 22 for the first wicket before Davidson (8-3-22-2) struck twice. Regular wickets for the Cavaliers then meant that Halstead were unable to build any meaningful partnerships, with N Hussain twice taking two wickets in two balls on his way to his best bowling figures for the club, bowling an excellent spell to finish with 8-3-17-6. Meanwhile, U Chaudhry bowled well at the other end, extracting good bounce and turn as the claimed figures of 5.4-0-13-2 in his first game for the Cavaliers. The Halstead innings ended with them slipping from 71/6 to 72 all out in 27.4 overs.

The Cavaliers reply got off to a slow start, with openers F Murtaza (1) and D Dellar (4) out with the Cavs yet to reach double figures. An aggressive 19 by Z Ahmed (off 16 balls after taking 9 to get off the mark!) got the Cavs up to 30/3 after 10 overs, with S Pillalamarri (10) out soon afterwards. The Cavaliers then made steady progress, reaching 60/4 before the wickets of N Hussain (6), P Johnson (3) and H Chaudhry (12) left the Cavs on 70/7 - 3 needed with 2 wickets in hand... N Davidson and U Chaudhry then got the scores level, but two wickets in two balls meant the Cavaliers were all out for 72 to tie the match.
