Catches Win Matches...

The Cavaliers second XI started their 2014 season today with a four wicket loss against Copdock & OI.

Batting first, the Cavs were struggling at 14/3, with D Young (0), D Smith (1), & K Hemstedt (6) all departing early. At this point S Pillalamarri (51) joined captain E Parry (60), adding 115 for the fourth wicket - both players registering their best scores for the club (& Sid earning his cap in the process). Once the partnership was broken, wickets fell regularly as the Cavs tried to get quick runs, with S Gilhooly (27) & P Sadler (11*) making good cameos. The innings ended with the Cavs scoring 178/9.

The Copdock reply got off to a lucky start, with both openers benefiting from dropped catches (several chances were put down throughout the innings), with J Bardell (11-0-64-0) being particularly unlucky. The introduction of S Pillalamarri (3-1-31-1) finally ended Copdock's luck, having one of the openers caught behind off the first ball of his spell.

With runs becoming easy to come by, the captain turned to D Smith (9-2-19-5) who managed to claim the wicket of the dangerous D Searle (bowled for 99). Sadly, after a few tense overs, Copdock reached their target of 179 for the loss of 6 wickets after 37.1 overs.

The Cavaliers Man of the Match (as voted for by the team) was Dan Smith for his 5-wicket haul.
