A Good Day for the Bowlers

The Cavaliers second XI played Great Horkesley & Lexden today at Spring Lane, losing by 32 runs.
After winning the toss & electing to field, the opening bowlers took full advantage of the swinging conditions to leave the opposition 25/4, with Z Ahmed (10-5-16-4) causing the damage. There were some good bowling performances from several other bowlers too - R Anandraj (6-2-17-0), S Pillalamarri (4-0-11-0) and D Myers (5-1-10-0) bowled economically. Wickets were also claimed by D Smith (7-0-20-1), C Finch (3-0-14-1) and K Hemstedt (5-1-10-2). The good bowling was offset by too many wides being bowled (although some of the umpiring was a tad harsh) as GT&L finished on 134/8 from their 45 overs - Extras being their top-scorer with 38 (32 wides).
Chasing 135 for victory, the Cavaliers top order collapsed to 16/5, with E Parry, D Smith, K Jayasinghe and G Moncrieff all departing for 0. S Pillalamarri (24) and Z Ahmed then set about rebuilding the innings, adding 42 runs for the sixth wicket. Another partnership of 38 between Z Ahmed (24) and K Hemstedt got the Cavs close to the 100-run mark before the last four wickets fell for just six runs, leaving Hemstedt stranded on 29* - The Cavaliers were all out for 102 in 29.2 overs.
The Cavaliers man of the match this week was Zubair Ahmed (4-16 with the ball and 24 with the bat)
